Sustainability
“There is no time (nor plastic) to waste.”
Our oceans are in trouble. On a yearly basis, more than 8 million tons of plastic waste flows into the sea, much of it being single-use disposal items such as plastic bottles, bags, containers and packaging. Since our oceans are without a doubt the lifeblood of the planet, there is no time (nor plastic) to waste.
“There is no such thing as waste, only wasted resources.”
We are well aware that major solutions are being achieved through attacking a problem at its source. In the first place, this means that the use of plastic in our day-to-day lives needs to be re-evaluated. At the same time, products such as swim shorts for which it is key that they have quick-drying characteristics, plastic is required either way. In such cases, using recycled polyester fibers is without a doubt the way to go. Knowing that currently not even 10% of produced plastic is being recycled, there is definitely room for improvement.
“Prevention is better than cure.”
In an effort to make a change, we invest with care and creativity in the prevention of plastic ending up in the sea. Simultaneously however, we want to make sure our oceans get cleaned up as much as possible. For that reason, we are currently in the process of reviewing charities that are tackling this problem through clean-up campaigns. It is our intention to fund these initiatives via donation. In this manner, we can make an impact both by tackling the root cause of the problem (i.e. recycling waste into swim shorts) as well as by supporting the cure.
Our commitment to the environment
At Oceans The Brand we realise that even our effort to create sustainable swimwear is not enough in saving our planet from the destruction caused by humans every day. For this reason, we commit 5% of our total annual profit to Oceans-centred charities every year.
At the moment, this includes the Sea First Foundation and the Marine Megafauna Foundation. If you'd like to donate to either one of these specifically, leave a comment in the delivery details and we'll make sure it happens.
